A Retainer Will Be Necessary After Your Braces Have Been Fully Corrected the Alignment of Your Teeth

Your regularly scheduled adjustment appointments at Quest Orthodontics’s orthodontic clinic played an important role in fully correcting the alignment of your teeth. This will provide you with a more attractive smile as well as teeth that are less prone to dental conditions like tooth enamel attrition and dental fractures.

After your orthodontic braces have been uninstalled there will still be a mild amount of latent tension in the dental sockets and periodontal ligaments. If it isn’t addressed it could cause your teeth to relapse out of their ideal alignment.

To prevent this from occurring, Dr. Arjun Patel will likely provide you with some form of orthodontic retainer. This can be done immediately after your braces have been uninstalled.

Hawley retainers are the most common option. This comes in the form of a removable mouthpiece made from a special orthodontic acrylic material. It incorporates strong wires that lock the retainer in place with specific teeth.

If a specific area required significant realignment Dr. Arjun Patel might recommend installing a temporarily fixed metal retainer. This sturdy metal band, that will be cemented behind the teeth.

If you are in the Atlanta, Georgia, area and you have a question about retainers, you can call 470-440-7330 to speak to one of the orthodontic specialists at Quest Orthodontics.
